31 Demon Days

If you’ve been following along on my socials, you’ve already seen what I’m about to talk about. But if you are just finding me now, and weren’t following any of my social media accounts through the month of October, you’re in for a treat.

Over the course of that month, I released a new painting each day. There are plenty of reasons I chose to do this: to create a bunch of new content in a short period of time, to build up some content on my a couple of my newer accounts, to practice some new techniques, to paint some things I wouldn’t have otherwise painted, the build a new print catalogue - you get the point.

Throughout the month, I got to play with a ton of new art. Well, throughout a couple of months. The prep and planning for this challenge was actually started halfway through August, and it took until 2 days before the end of October to get everything fully complete.

To say I’m happy with the results is an understatement. I created some of my new favourite pieces, and it helped me to retire some of my older prints.

It also helped me realize how much focus and energy I had been putting on creating product pieces over the last few years rather than painting art I just felt like painting.

For years now I’ve tried to make a point of painting things that could be turned into a print or some other type of product, because int he back of my mind, I felt like if it couldn’t make me money in some way, I couldn’t make time for it. This whole idea goes against the entire reason I chose to create this project, which was to just make art I love.

All that to say I think I have found a good process for creating that works for me now, in the present. I’m going to allow myself to play a bit more, because I missed it more than I realized. And in playing, I managed to conceptualize some pieces that I really do love.

Taking on the challenge of creating a new fully rendered painting for every day of October, which was a challenge, was really enjoyable and inspired me to redesign some of the ways I do things.

One of those things is social media.

I’ve always been horrible at keeping up with my socials as I’ve never been a fan of spending much time on my phone or computer outside of work hours. As such, I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve neglected my social media accounts for months on end over the last several years.

Forcing myself to post on 4 different platforms every day over the course of 31 days actually helped me develop a new process for keeping up with those updates, and in turn made me more excited to keep going.

That said, expect to see more social media posts from me in the coming year as I explore the future of Unspoken Gods and test out some new things. (You can find all of my socials my searching unspokengods, or you can find me on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook just by clicking their respective links.

And, if you haven’t already, go check out the new page for the 31 Demon Days challenge, where I’ve set up a gallery of all 31 new pieces.

That’s all for now. Take care!
