A new process...
I’ve had some time to think over the last little while about what I’m doing with this project. I’ve been working on the Songs of Death comic behind the scenes to try to revamp what’s been done already for it and make it more cohesive with what I’m planning to do with it all in the future, but I’ve also been trying to figure out what I’m doing with the other aspects of Unspoken Gods.
This is far from an easy task, as I’m a one person show - all decisions, whether good or bad, rest on me, which means I tend to take a while to make any solid decisions because I like to weigh the pros and cons of each outcome.
Some things I’ve been thinking about recently: how to move forward with the comic, how to get back into the swing of being more active online, how to produce more meaningful content for the project overall, what kind of content is most worth my time to focus on, etc.
I had been telling a few of my regular customers (you know who you are) for a few months now that I’m hoping to get the first issue of the comic finished up and published as a paperback book this year. Unfortunately, that’s not currently possible. While focusing on the comic is what I’ve been trying to do, it means that I have no new content to share on a regular basis, and for those of you who see me every month or so at local markets and conventions, it means I haven’t had many new prints to share - or any other products, for that matter.
I don’t want every other aspect of Unspoken Gods to suffer, so I’m changing up the way I do things here. This doesn’t mean that the comic isn’t going to happen, but I will be taking longer to release more of it.
In good news, though, you’ll be able to get a peek at the story the comic is based on sooner than you’ll read the comic. I’ve always written stories to go along with the art I create, but I’ve never really shared much of it publicly. That’s something that’s about to change. I won’t be publishing the novels I’ve written, as they’re not relevant currently, but I will be taking the time to write the story of the comic as chapters here on the website that can be accessed for free. I can’t say when this will start, as I have to get everything in order to get it all ready to go, but I’m hoping for sometime in the coming months.
Another thing that I plan to change is the art. It won’t be a drastic change, but I want to give you all a glimpse into the world building side of things that I usually keep to myself. This means random sketches, character and item design, etc will be posted here on the site under The Universe page. You’ll be able to explore how things are shaping up in a way I’ve never shared before. It also means that I’ll be sharing random written scenes with new art sometimes, and potentially some short stories so you can get to know characters who won’t be a part of Songs of Death.
So you’ll be able to read some stories about certain characters as I feel inspired to write about them, you’ll get new art more often, and you’ll still get the comic - just at a much slower pace to begin with. This also opens up my schedule to be able to offer more products like new enamel pin designs and books full of short stories for those of you who come see me in person at events. I’ll be revamping my portfolio this year as well, which means a lot of my old faves will be put into the vault to make room for some new art, which I’m really excited about.
Also, I’ve shut down my Patreon. I’d rather have everything in one central place, which is here on my official website. If you’d still like to support me, you can do so by heading here.
I know this has been a long read, and if you’ve stuck around this long, thank you so much for supporting this crazy project. It means the world to have people interested in a project that started as a passion for me.
TLDR: Comic will take a bit to finish, you’ll be able to start reading the story on the website instead, there will be more new art, you’ll see more behind the scenes stuff, I’ll release new products slightly more often, I’m revamping my portfolio with a ton of new prints, and some of my old prints are going into the vault and will no longer be available for sale at in person events (but may still be available online).
Cheers for now!
